A robot is a juncture at which the human being waits and lets the machine do the job. We respond to what the machine says and follow as it pleases. The cycle of master-slave begins when robots are made by man. Robots today have taken so much of our intelligence and using it to control us. In other words, “to serve man’’. But we find ourselves unwillingly obeying our slaves. They don’t have a soul or anything like that. They don’t get annoyed and they never at any moment get emotional. But at the deep end of man seats a small mistake which robots know they don’t have; the virtue of patience and precise timing. A robot takes its time to control us and gives us a chance to accept its intelligence and follow what it wants. A time frame calibrated by us. Traffic lights are a typical example of robots. Why are accidents common particularly at the robots? Located at the road intersection, pedestrian crossing- a critical area where every driver or mere pedestrian needs to pay attention to changes of light colors.
Having used traffic lights for my whole life, I find it amazingly intriguing how they control movements of cars and pedestrians. It takes an average intelligent human being to be cautious when a traffic light is amber. People with hyper adrenalin get their blood pumping when they take a look at the robot. Fighting with your consciousness is what we don’t want when we get at the traffic light. A little discipline is required when the robot turns red and we don’t want to risk any life. Traffic lights never dispute their function of control. We wait at a red light; we patiently hope MASTER ROBOT will let us through next. Even when he doesn’t, we know our chance will eventuate. When they change to red, they mean what human beings meant to them as the meaning of red i.e danger: interpreting, neither cars nor pedestrians should move. This is the critical sign of the traffic lights. Red shows that no mistake should be made. Some people wait and some don’t! Those who don’t fear something bad could happen yet they still surge forward. We make robots for us but we end up bowing and observing these semi intelligent beings with no consciousness. Bottom line is we have to bow to them because they have what we wish we possessed at all times, perfection and fairness. Until we have such, the robot will continue to be our small man made god. Yes, we will continue to listen and obey the red, amber and green light. The penalty for disobedience is obvious. Death or arrest by state powers. You are always lucky when no accident happened. Chances are, you don’t know the chances left for you to cause an accident.
The widely appreciated light on the traffic light is the green one. Everyone is happy when the robot is green. It’s a sign for no-waiting. Pedestrian and cars facing the green light are completely sure of their safety when they move across or turn. This should not always be the case. Nobody is guaranteed a complete safety even when the light is green. Someone facing red could be in a bad mood for observing robot signals hence putting you at risk. So be cautious at all times, it's not always about the robot but us. In this manner, we reduce our dependence on things that we make. Traffic lights do not discriminate. They neither see black nor white person, slow or fast cars or pedestrians. All they do is doing what we have told them to do. Wait a little time, soon it would be green. It pays; don’t forget you have been waiting. Go when its time to go and stop when its time to stop.
